Swedish-American engineer and inventor who designed and built the <i>Monitor</i>, the first naval ironclad vessel, which engaged the Confederate ironclad <i>Merrimac</i> in the historic Hampton Roads naval battle of 1862. LS “<i>J Ericsson</i>,” 1¼pp, 4to, New York, Feb 2, 1875. Interesting content pertaining to the manufacture of Ericsson’s caloric engine. In part, “...<i>Regarding the prize medal which I received from the Mechanics Institute 1840, I deem it important to correct the statement in your letter, that you had ‘offered a small gold medal.’ It was the great gold medal of the Mechanics Institute...the first, and I believe, the only one ever struck of that size</i>...” More. 11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The

acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
