JOHN DILLINGER`S HAIR: (1903-1934) American bank robber and murderer, in 1933 and 1934, he and his gangs undertook a sring of bank robberies in the Midwest, with narrow escapes from the law. His first robbery in 1924 led to a nine year stint in prison. took place in Mooresville in 1924. He was caught and imprisoned until 1933. After a jailbreak, he resumed robbing banks until gunned down by the FBI as he exited a Chicago theater, betrayed by the infamous "Lady in red". An outstanding Dillinger relic, a hair cut from his head as he lay dead in the Chicago morgue. The hair, approx. 1" long, is contained within a circular, sealed plastic container. The container in turn is affixed to a 18" x 12" mat bearing photographs of two Dillinger wanted posters, a morgue photo and an FBI contact list. Also prominently illustrated is the original letter of provenance written by a young lady on July 24, 1934, two days after Dillinger's death, reading in part: "...Father helped to clean the Body, and brought home a fountain pen and part of a candy bar and wrapper he had in his pocket. Father brought some hair that he clipped for souvenirs. I am putting some with this letter for you..." Sold with a later owner's COA as well. Limited to fifty, of which this is no. 23. $500-700
