JOHN B. GORDON: (1832 - 1904) Confederate major general who led a brigade at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and crushed Grant's line at the Wilderness. Rare war-date signed endorsement removed from a document, in full: "Hd. Qrs. 2 A. Corps Feby 15, 1865 Respy ford. Recommendation Med. Ex. Board approved. J. B. Gordon Maj. Genl. Comdg". Attached is a second signed endorsement by WALTER H. TAYLOR (b. 1838), Confederate lieut. col. and Lee's closest staff officer. Taylor's signature is light, Gordon's bears two lightly-brushed letters, else overall very good. $500-700
