JOE DIMAGGIO`S WORN YANKEE OLD TIMER`S DAY JERSEY: JOE DIMAGGIO (1914-1999) Baseball Hall of Fame...
JOE DIMAGGIO`S WORN YANKEE OLD TIMER`S DAY JERSEY: JOE DIMAGGIO (1914-1999) Baseball Hall of Famer, "Joltin' Joe" hit safely in 56 consecutive games. A truly great DiMaggio relic, the Yankee pinstriped jersey he wore at the Old Timer's game at Yankee Stadium on September 20, 1980. The jersey is a Wilson size 44 with Yankee logo at right center and DiMaggio's number 5 stitched to the verso. At the neck, his name "DiMaggio" has been stitched to the cloth liner at the rear of the neck. The left sleeve bears a one inch black band which all players wore in memory of the death of catcher Thurman Munson in an airplane crash on August 2, 1979. The jersey is accompanied by a copy of the letter of authenticity given to our consignor by respected memorabilia dealer Mickey's Place in Cooperstown which reads in part: "...The jersey, bearing the number 5, was worn by Joe DiMaggio during an Old-Timers game at Yankee Stadium on September 20,1980. The arm band was worn to commemorate Thurman Munson, who was killed in a plane crash the year before...". Also included in the lot are copies of newspaper articles referring to the game, Munson's widow (who attended and was recognized by the crowd), and other descriptive material. The jersey is clean and bright, in excellent condition. Joe was in good company that day; joining him were Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Johnny Blanchard, Don Drysdale, Monte Irvin, Billy Martin, Phil Rizzuto, Bill Skowron, Bobby Thomson, Hoyt Wilhelm, and several dozen other Yankee legends. A great find, ideal for display! $3,000-5,000
