Exceptional typed letter signed by President John F. Kennedy to Mrs. Rose Marie Diller from the White House dated 1 June 1962. Typed on White House stationery, it reads in full, “The ‘Birthday Salute’ at Madison Square Garden on the 19th of May was an extraordinary event in many ways. The show was, indeed, one of the finest in terms of talent, but it was also one of the best organized and best produced. I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. There is no one so often forgotten as a committee member and, for events of this kind, there is no one so essential as a good committee member. I know that you played a great part in making it such a memorable evening, and I wanted to convey my personal thanks to you for making it so. With every good wish. ‘John Kennedy’” The fund-raising birthday salute for JFK at Madison Square Garden drew the likes of Jack Benny, Ella Fitzgerald, Maria Callas, Peggy Lee, Jimmy Durante and, of course, Marilyn Monroe. The 6.75” x 8.75” letter is toned and has mounting remnants on top edge of verso, else in very good condition.
