JFK Model Rocket
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Beautiful scarce and historic prototype of the Apollo rocket that was presented to President John F. Kennedy on 13 April 1961 at the White House by NASA. The day after Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to orbit earth, NASA administrator James Webb brought this desk model of the ''Apollo Spacecraft'' to the oval office which was described as designed to lift an American astronaut into space. Determined to top the Soviets in the space race, President Kennedy then vowed to send a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Called the ''Apollo Spacecraft,'' this rocket's pinnacle holds a tall, thin Saturn rocket with the words ''United States'' emblazoned across it and medal engines at its base. The Saturn is attached to a Launch Escape Tower connecting it with the Launch Escape Subsystem with an American flag emblem and window decals. The main section, called the ''service module,'' has four steel replicas of the RCS Thruster Flyaway Umbilical and is attached at the bottom by the nozzle extension. Overall, an incredibly detailed and exquisite model of the actual Apollo rocket with exceptional provenance. It was purchased by legendary Kennedy collector Robert L. White and is accompanied by a letter from Mr. White documenting its history. This rocket model can be disassembled into three parts: the Saturn rocket; the launch escape tower and subsystem; and the service module. The entire rocket measures 21” high x 5” wide, with a 22'' diameter base. In very good condition with light chipping and wear. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to own such an extraordinary piece of Presidential and NASA history.
