JESSE JAMES GOES TO THE MOVIES
JESSE JAMES, JR. (1875-1951) "Tim", the only son of noted outlaw Jesse James born in Nashville during the height of his father's career as an outlaw. His mother was Zerelda, Jesse James' wife and his first cousin. James, Jr. later moved to Los Angeles and became an attorney. Interesting archive concerning the younger James and his very brief career as a film star portraying his father, includes two stock certificates in MESCO PICTURES, each for five shares, issued to Mrs. Frank James and signed by the film company's vice president, T. T. Crittenden, a D.S., 1p. legal folio, Aug. 21, 1920 witnessed by James, Jr., a receipt for $100.00 paid by Mrs. Frank James for five shares in Mesco., numerous newspaper clippings including an obituary for the younger James, an interesting article citing his trial for train robbery years earlier (an apparent set-up), and optimistic articles concerning Mesco and Kansas City becoming the new hub of the growing film industry, Mesco would make but two films, both in 1921, both concerning Jesse James, and both starring the younger James portraying his father. The films showed the outlaw in a favorable light - more romantic dramas than realistic documentaries. Interesting reading.

Estimate: $150 - 200.
