Born and raised in Great Fall, Montana, Jeff graduated from Montana State
University in Bozeman. After a stint in the Army, Walker attended graduate
school at Eastern Montana College. He then taught art at Great Falls High for
several years. Inspired by the water-colored Elephant Folio prints and engravings
of Audubon, the mediums of etching and watercolor became united under
Walker's touch in small edition etching prints – pulled by hand, then watercolored
individually. Etching gradually gave way to an interest in oil painting,
and though he still does an etching or two per year, painting landscapes in oil
has primarily taken over the easel time since 1990. Walker and his wife, Julie,
live about 35 miles west of Great Falls near Fort Shaw. He has been a long time
participant in the C.M. Russell Auction – both as an artist juried into the auction
and as an exhibitor. He has exhibited his work at the C.M. Russell Museum in
Great Falls, Montana, as well as other museums and shows statewide: Artist
for Open Spaces, Treasure State Invitational, C.M. Russell Museum Masters
in Miniature. In 2005, he took part in an exhibit at the C.M. Russell Museum
showcasing work related to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He also is a founding
member of the Montana Painter's Alliance, a group of Montana artists who value
camaraderie and on location painting. The Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell
held a retrospective show of about 75 of his etchings this summer.
