<B><I>Blandan</B></I></B></I><I><BR></B></I><BR>Jean Gautherin,<B> </B></I>French (1840-1890)<BR>Bronze<BR>32-3/4 inches (83.1 cm)<BR>Inscribed <I>Blandon </B></I>on front of base, and on right side, <I>Jean Gautherin, Hors Concours </B></I>(which translates to "outside the competition")<I><BR></B></I><BR> Sculptor Jean Gautherin has portrayed the French hero of the Algerian conquest, Jean-Pierre Hippolyte Blandan (1819-1842), before he was mortally wounded on April 11, 1842 in an ambush by approximately three hundred Arab riders.<BR><BR>Jean Gautherin was born in the Village of Ouroux.
