JAPANESE WEDDING KIMONO WITH CRANES AND FLOWERS
A beautiful Japanese wedding kimono (uchikake) with embroidered cherry blossoms and cranes (a traditional symbol of longevity), white and gold metallic threads on a white patterned ground, and padded red hem and red lining. Composition and style are indicative of an impressive work of art as well.
Dimensions are approximately 73" long and 52" across the shoulders. Condition is excellent, with no apparent stains, and the age is circa 1960's. New wedding kimonos in Japan cost thousands of dollars today, and are usually commissioned for a particular bride. Wedding kimonos create stunning focal points in a house when hung on a wall as art, simply with a bamboo or other pole placed through the shoulders, as shown in the first photo. The back can be displayed on the wall as well; the second photo shows the back of this one on a queen-size bed (to show relative size). The other photos show close-ups of the back and left sleeve.
