(JAPANESE WAR CRIMINALS SIGNED FLG)
225. JAPANESE WAR CRIMINALS SIGNED FLAG Superb signed relic from the 1946 Japanese War Crimes trials held in Tokyo, a silk 16 1/4" x 11" "meatball" Japanese flag boldly signed in black ink by 23 of the trial's key defendants, each of whom has signed his name in English. Included are HIDEKI TOJO, SADAO ARAKI, KENJI DOIHARA, SHINROKU HATA, KOKI HIROTA, NAOKI HOSHINO, SEISHIRO ITAGAKI, OKINORO KAYA, KOICHI KIDO, HEITARO KIMURA, IWANE MATSUI, JIRO MINAMI, AKIRA MUTO, TAKASUMI OKA, HIROSHI OSHIMA, KERYO SATO, MAMORU SHIGEMITSU, SHIGETARO SHIMADA, TOSHIO SHIRATORI, TEIICHI SUZUKI, SHIGENORI TOGO and YOSHIJIRO UMEZU. Many of the signers were executed for their crimes, while others were given lengthy prison sentences. While their Nazi counterparts, the Nuremberg defendants, can occasionally be found in complete sets, the Japanese war criminals are much rarer, especially when presented in such a fine association. The flag is matted under archival Plexiglas, with a very light dampstain at two margins not at all distracting from the item which is in overall near-fine condition. $3,000-4,000
