<B>JAPANESE RHODOCHROSITE CABOCHON</B></I><BR> <I>Nakuraishi Mine, Hokkaido, Japan</B></I><BR>This rosy-red, oval cabochon cut Rhodochrosite was fashioned from the same material exposed in the center of the 'eyes' in lot # 48266. It displays the remarkable saturated red color that is rivaled only by the South African material found approximately 20 years ago and not seen since. In overall appearance it is very much like strawberry jelly and when back-lit it shows a complex color pattern not visible in reflected light. The dome of the cabochon is low in profile and the dimensions are: 50 mm long by 36 mm wide.
