JAPANESE PROPAGANDA ART BOOK
JAPANESE PROPAGANDA ART BOOK
Rare war-date book, "Greater East Asia War Painting Art Collection", a scarce anthology reproducing 120 works of Japanese war art, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, and prints, all executed for propaganda purposes by artists commissioned by the Japanese government. The images depict major Japanese military achievements, including the attack on Pearl Harbor, the sinking of the British battleships Prince of Wales and Repulse, the sinking of the U.S.S. YORKTOWN, and numerous other images of naval, air, and land engagements, amphibious assaults, torpedo attacks, allied planes exploding and allied soldiers surrendering, as well as domestic and patriotic scenes and heroic monuments. Although some scenes depict the hardship and discomfort of the war, the propagandistic ideology of the images is displayed front and center. The prints are bound in an attractive hardcover volume, 135pp. folio, in a paperboard slipcase. Fine.
