JAPANESE AIKUCHI WITH SAYA & SIGNED KOZUKA
Excellent detail and quality sword mountings married to this aikuchi. Aikuchi features 15 cm samegawa wrapped tsuka with flowerpot menuki (each measures approximately 4.6cm long); blade appears to be later (probably Chinese) reproduction(11cm tang, 36.5 cm total length); iron aikuchi tsuba (30.7 by 47.1 by 7.1 mm) rusted with a serpent-dragon on the edge; matched brass seppa; habaki with excellent red-brown patina has a visible weld line on the front (measures 27 mm high by 29 mm wide, 11.5 at the widest; internal measurements 7.8mm at widest, 1.04mm at narrowest and 22.9 mm across) and black fulchi with gold rim (34.7 by 18 mm internal, 38.48 by 21.9 mm outer). Saya has intricately carved copper-alloy octopus (tako) kurikata, excellent black lacquered finish, six-pointed star geometric kojiri. Kokuza features wave decoration and some gold overlay; gokatana (7cm tang, 18.5cm total length) signed (translated) and heavily ground. Conditions and ages of each part vary. Overall in very good condition.
