JAPAN: Tokugawa, 1603-1868, silver-washed AE mon (2.48g), Fukagawa, Musashi Province, H-4.126a, Zeno-179820, Kanei Tsuho, Jumantsubo-sen, Fukyu-te variety, 1726-32, VF. Some coins were coated with gold or silver to be used in a house raising ceremony. Houses were built frames first, and when the main ridge beam of the house was built the owner would have a celebration and ceremony inviting all the neighbors. The owner stood on the ridge beam and threw sweets and gold-and-silver-plated copper coins to all the neighbors who gathered below.
