<b>1469. JANIS JOPLIN</b> (1943 - 1970) American rock and blues singer who incorporated the styles of Bessie Smith and Billy Holiday producing albums with Big Brother and the Holding Company and Full Tilt Bogie Band. Died of a heroin overdose in 1970. Rare D.S. "<i>Janis</i>" 2pp. 8vo., a get-well card sent by her to her boyfriend Peter LeBlanc while Joplin was home in Port Arthur Texas in 1965. The front of the card reads: "I'm sending you this card because it looked so sad and lonely on the rack and I thought you would make it feel gay and happy and wanted...", with the inside reading: "...like you did for me...". Joplin signs within: "<i>I LOVE YOU....Janis</i>". Near fine, with envelope upon which she has written "<i>Peter...</i>". Two pieces.<b>$1,000-1,500</b>
