PHILADELPHIA US CONTRACT OF 1808 FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 69. NSN. Approx. 4,126 of the 9,000 Harpers Ferry pattern musket were delivered to the US War Department during the Napoleonic era. Bbl. 45" w/ eagle "CT" proof on top of bbl. by breech. 3 Band musket stock w/ sling swivels, musket buttplate & button tipped ramrod. Left side of buttstock is stamped "IV". Left ear of stock stamped " V / L. / V". CONDITION: Fair metal a gray patina mixed with brown corrosion & showing scattered areas of oxidation. Metal also shows areas of cleaned pitting w/ pitting heaviest near touch hole. Stock has worn appearance with evidence of numerous large chips along left side bbl. channel, shrunken wood around buttplate, large dents coinciding w/ sm. gouges, dents & scratches.
