JAMES SULLIVAN
(1744 - 1808) American Revolutionary, a member of the Massachusetts Committee of Safety who later pressed for adoption of the Constitution. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Boston Nov. 5, 1798 to Thomas Wolcott, in part, "...The Boxes I have trusted to our care are of great value to the United States. I have contracted with the stage to carry them for the usual way...should it so happen that you can not get them carried within you are not to proceed one mile with them on the outside but stay untill [sic] you shall find a stage which will carry them within. You will deliver them safe to the Secretary of State...". A marginal note in Sullivan's hands reveals that the parcel was "The small Trunk containing accounts & vouchers to be delivered to the Secretary of State". Offered with an A.L.S. in the third person "The Governor and Mrs Sullivan", 1p. oblong 4to., Boston 5 Sept., 1807 inviting "Mr. & Mrs. Roach" for "a cup of tea tomorrow evening as soon after the church as may be agreeable to them...". Also together with an A.D.S. 2pp. legal folio, [Boston], 17 Oct. 1801, a long essay concerning the levy of property taxes as well as a partly-printed D.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., Boston 2 June 1792 notifying the selectmen of Brookfield, Mass., of a tax debt still owed to the commonwealth. Together four pieces in very good condition.
