JAMES ENSOR<BR>[Sidney Edouard]<BR>1860 - 1949 (Belgian) <BR><BR>The Orchard / Le Verger - 1886 <BR>Original Hand Signed and Dated Etching<BR><BR>Title : The Orchard / Le Verger <BR><BR>Technique : Original Etching on Japon paper. <BR><BR>Paper Size : 26 X 35 cm / 10.2 X 13.8 inch. <BR><BR>Image Size : 16 X 24 cm / 6.3 X 9.5 inch. <BR><BR>Additional Information : This fine etching is Hand Signed in pencil by the artist "James Ensor" at the lower right margin. <BR>It is also Signed in the plate and dated in the plate "Ensor 1886".<BR>Furthermore the work is Hand Signed on the back of the paper and stamped on the back side Jacques Ernest, Sonderegger in the lower right corner.<BR>This etching was drawn from the nature in the village of Oudenbourg near Ostend.<BR>It is one of the first prints Ensor ever created, and in fact it in the second etching in the Ensor catalogue raisonne of prints!<BR>This is the Third and final state out of the three that exist. <BR><BR>Since the very opening of the gallery Le Bateau-Lavior, Mira Jacob was active in promoting the importance of the work of James Ensor. In accordance with Andr Breton She included him in the symbolist exhibition of 1958, but she was particularly concerned with his graphic oeuvre: in 1978 she organized an exhibition of his complete printed works.
