Reads, "...The report in the newspaper to which you refer is an error. The sub-committee recommended $6000 for Conneant to keep their pier from falling into decay. The sub-committee were willing to give $15000 to Ashtabula but Mr [Amos] Townsend got them to report conditionally an appropriation of $20000. I shall go before the full committee...and insist upon the largest appropriation it is possible to get..." Some soiling (mostly at folds), o/w VG. $400-600
