(JAMAICAN MISSIONARY LETTER)
A.L.S. 4pp. folio, Fairfield, Jamaica, Sep.1, 1843, in which a missionary to blacks in Jamaica describes the progress of his ministry to an associate in North Carolina, in small part:"...yesterday was a day of rest for me. I kept only the school, & brother Pfeiffer kept the other meetings. There was children's baptism...Some 3 or four of them are old Africans, & it required much patience & perseverance with them. I was also puzzled how to simplify, but I believe that they had a better teacher, even the spirit of God, and I rejoice to think that God has set his seal to the vows they made in the sincerity of their hearts...". Much more, including lengthy quotes of a letter from an African missionary. Very good.
