A curious pair of Curled Baby Dragon Jade Plaques: thin, hard, and very translucent, the Jade source has not survived into the modern era. Their curiousity stems from the different surfaces they present: with one having a lot of abrasions from crude polishing while the other shows no polishing (since the tomb environment corroded the surface just enough to obliterate any polishing lines). Could the former have been polished in modern times to remove a stain or corrosion debris? That seems likely. Anyway, without using a microscope, they are a LOVELY pair from the Zhou period of North China. The explanation for the fascination with the Embryonic Dragon by ancient peoples might be that it was used as an amulet in conception and birth.....certainly a major concern to the culture. 1-1/4" at their longest., the Pair is impressive and very wearable.
