Born in Amsterdam, Kever knew as a young men that he wanted to become an artist in the manner of Josef Israels, whose family was friendly with his mother's. As a young artist he worked initially as a lithographer and subsequently pursued his artistic studies with Peter Franciscus Greive in Amsterdam. A number of his classmates became noted artists in their own right as well: Jan van Essen, M.I. de Haan, C. Metselaar and Jan ten Kate. In 1878, he pursued further training at the Academy in Antwerp. After he returned to Holland he befriended Anton Mauve and settled in Laren where his greatest artistic rival was Albert Neuhuys (1844-1914), who is represented in the present auction by two works featuring peasant figures in rustic interiors. Kever participated in numerous international exhibitions including the Brussels exhibition of 1910, Munich exhibitions in 1901 and 1905 where he won medals, the Paris exhibition of 1889, and the American exhibition of 1900. Numerous examples of his work are preserved in the municipal museum of The Hague.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
