Figural tulipier vase for growing tulip flowers with a reading woman reclining amongst applied flowers in the Meissen style. Made by Jacob Petit, Paris, France early 19th century.
Measures 9 1/8inches high and about 9 1/4inches accross.
Scrolling base with typical rococo decoration in the form of scallops and daintilly painted flowers. There are 7 pink containers, each with a flower-form rim in rich gold for containing the tulips. In front of them, on a naturalistically moulded and painted mound, a reading woman reclines amidst applied delicate flowers and background modelled gilded foliage. Very fine painting of the various parts of her clothes.
Underneath, the piece is marked with blue JP.
Condition: generally excellent. There are 2 kiln cracks underneath the piece as well as broad crazing, limited to the bottom of the piece only. There are typical minor losses to the tiny applied flowers and very minor gilt losses to some of the pointy edges. Blacklight shows no other damage.
