JACKSON ( John L. ). The Art of Riding ; or, horsemanship made easy : exemplified by rules drawn from nature and experience. By J. L. Jackson, Esq; London : Printed for A. Cooke, in Fenchurch-street, 1765FIRST (ONLY) EDITION, with an engraved frontispiece of "The Manage or Riding House", pages iv, 54, without the advert leaf at end found in some copies, 12mo, full polished calf, gilt, gilt spine, with labels, gilt, inside gilt borders, edges gilt, by Zaehnsdorf, both boards loose : the lower margin on eight pages cut close affecting sigature and catchwords only, internally in very good to fine state. Apparently the only edition. ESTC locates copies at C, L, O / CSmh, IU and CtY-Sm. Remarkably uncommon in commerce. Toole Stott 2057 describes a copy without the frontispiece and remarks, under his entry 2054 for Hughes’s The Compleat Horseman, 1772, upon the latter’s ‘lifting’ of the text of Jackson’s book for the latter part of his own treatise.ENGLISH PRE 1801; SPORT; HORSE RIDING; EQUITATION; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
