JACK RUBY`S NEW TESTAMENT AND MUSIC BOOK
(1911 - 1967) Dallas nightclub owner who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald following Oswald's assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. A nice lot of Ruby relics, two books owned by Ruby while jailed at the Dallas County Jail: an illustrated, abridged text of The New Testament in oversize format, New York, American Bible Society, ca. 1965, along with The Stream of Music by Richard Leonard, Garden City, Dolphin Books, 1963. Both books bear inscriptions to Ruby, with the one in The New Testament reading, ironically,: ""Have faith in God""(Ruby was a devout Jew). Sold with a revealing letter of provenance from 1967 from Richard Betzenhauser, the clerk and secretary for the Dallas Chief Jailer from 1964-1966, in which he describes Ruby's cell arrangement and his many meetings with the inmate, Ruby's giving him these books, and the interesting fact that he was present at both Kennedy's and Oswald's murders. Also included is a copy of Betzenhauser's notarized affidavit concerning the books. Four items in all, overall good condition. An intriguing grouping.
