This is an original J.W. Fiske life size horse head trade sign. The early and exceptionally rare piece hung in Marcus Daly's Montana Hotel Saloon in Anaconda, Montana. Marcus Daly was one of the "Copper Kings" of Butte and Anaconda Montana and the founder of the Anaconda Copper Mine. Mr. Daly was also a well accomplished horse breeder and was the owner/breeder of Scottish Chieftain, the only horse bred in Montana to ever win the Belmont Stakes (1897). The piece appears to be zinc or tin with a copper brass wash or plating. The bust shows very good condition with the round plaque that it is mounted to having some wear around the edge. This is one of the finest condition examples of the full size horse head bust done by J.W. Fiske and is an excellent collectible. The piece of Montana History measures 25"H x 23"W x 17.25"D.
