J. Tarratt & Sons Hawken .50Cal Plains Rifle 1840-
You are bidding on a great example of a J. Tarratt & Sons Hawken .50 Caliber Percussion Plains Rifle. This rifle was made by known maker J. Tarratt & Sons (marked on the engraved lock plate), remarkable condition for a western plains and mountain rifle of the fur trapping/mountain man era, complete with desirable double set triggers which function correctly, 34” full octagon barrel, beautifully executed pewter forend cap, ramrod intact and held under the barrel by a full under rib (found only on very high quality rifles of the time) by twin iron thimbles, beautiful uncleaned and unsanded deep reddish brown stock that is in solid, excellent condition, fancy brass trigger guard and matching crescent butt plate, barrel, lock and hammer are a wonderfully never-cleaned dark aged patina, this rifle shows only moderate frontier usage and was obviously well cared for, small buckhorn style rear sight with corresponding traditional blade front sight, nearly impossible to find large caliber western half stock Hawken-Style sporting rifles in this condition, a prize addition to any advanced arms collection or western fur trapping display. Antique firearm. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required
