J. R. R. Tolkien -- The Lord of the Rings, First Edit
J. R. R. Tolkien -- ""The Lord of the Rings,"" First Edition Set with Dust Jackets (George Allen & Unwin, 1954-55). After years of negotiating, it was eventually agreed that publisher Allen & Unwin would publish J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings in three volumes. After a long and difficult period of production, " "The Fellowship of the Ring was published on July 21, 1954. " "The Two Towers followed this on November 11, 1954 and " "The Return of the King finally appeared on October 20, 1955. Presented here are first editions of each of these eventful books, including the dust jacket for each. The dust jackets show some aging along the edges, especially along the spines, with some ink loss on some of the type. Overall the jackets are in Good condition. The books have a bit of aging apparent, especially on the inside front and back covers. The previous owner's inscription is on the first page of each volume. The covers exhibit a bit of edge wear, and some light rubbing, but are in Very Good condition. Of this classic in world literature only 3500 sets were printed and no doubt fewer survived the past half century.
