J.R. McChesney (1867-1928) Silver & Copper Spurs
Featured in this lot is this J.R. McChesney (1867-1928) silver and copper mounted spur pair. The spurs show solid construction, displaying mounted copper hearts, engraved heel band, and spur strap lags mounted with an etched silver button. The spur rowel shows five round star points and the McChesney hallmark is shown on the inside of the heel band. John Robert McChesney was the first spur maker to widely market the Texas-style Western-gear items. He was born to Thomas Carvin and Rosetta Mattison McChesney on September 26, 1866, in South Bend, Indiana. The condition of this pair of spurs is good, with no obvious signs of damage and oxidation and patina consistent with the age of the spurs. The measurements of this pair of spurs are 4 1/2" x 3 1/4" x 7/8".
