DS, two pages, 8 x 13, January 17, 1894. Legal document from the City and County of New York Supreme Court concerning a "petition of the Trustees of the Peabody Education Fund, for leave to sue Andrew Kirkpatrick and Thomas Reid, as Receivers of Thurber Whyland Company," parties defendant to a mortgage foreclosure made and executed by Charles and Nettie Gerlach. Signed at the conclusion by Morgan as treasurer of the Trustees of the Peabody Education Fund. In fine condition, with small filing holes along the top edge. The Peabody Education Fund was established in 1867 to promote education in the South, seeking to aid elementary education by strengthening existing schools, many of which had been crippled by the Civil War. An unusual document demonstrating Morgan's philanthropic side.
