J.P. Sauer & Son, deluxe grade, prewar, 28ga, side by side shotgun, finest quality high art engraved and gold inlaid, serial #254847. The gun shows 26” barrels choked Full and Extra Full. Hand engraved Von Lengerke and Detmold, Inc, New York. US Agents. The barrels are chiseled in game scenes at the breech with hunting dogs, high relief scrolls and J. P. Sauer & Son Suhl in gold banners. Also deeply engraved and muzzles. The action is chiseled and gold inlaid in high relief with scene of foxes and birds on left, European birds on bottom of frame, bird with shotgun on triggerguard, and hunting dogs pointing birds on right side of the frame surrounded by high relief chiseled engraving. The gun shows automatic ejectors, double triggers, pistol grip stock with rounded bottom, hard-rubber buttplate, in select grain walnut, nicely checkered. The gun measures 13-7/8” from the trigger to the end of the wood, nearly 14” to the end of the hard-rubber Sauer buttplate. The gun shows 98-99% of a European quality refinish, which is hard to detect, just slightly darker than factory.
