J.P. Sauer & Sohns Engraved 12 GA SxS Shotgun
Included in this lot is a stunning engraved J.P. Sauer & Sohns finely engraved and gilded 12 gauge side by side shotgun. J.P. Sauer & Sohn is the oldest recorded gun maker in Germany. The first Sauer company was founded in 1751 by Lorenz Sauer in Suhl, Thuringia, Germany. The shotgun utilizes a 30 5/16” side by side Damascus barrel chambered in 12 gauge. The top of the barrel is inlaid with gilded lettering reading “J.P. Sauer U. Sohn Suhl”. Additional gold inlay is around the barrels where the receiver meets the barrel. The receiver is lavishly decorated and highly engraved. The left side shows two foxes with a woodland background in a relief style engraving while the right has a buck running through the woods. The underside of the trigger guard shows a doe bedded down. The silver pistol grip cap also shows a shield engraving. The break action lever is made of either tortoise shell or horn. The right side of the straight grain walnut stock features a cheek riser. The pistol grip and foregrip showcase a nice diamond checkering. The shotgun is in very good condition overall for its age. Minor chip damage to the fore grip and the lever. Serial Number: 22691. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
