J. P. Sauer K98 Sniper Rifle with Custom Short Side Rail Mount and Zeiss Scope
This is a copy of a mid-war production K98 rifle made by J. P. Sauer and Sohns with a short rail sniper mounting system. The rifle is equipped with a Zeiss scope. The scope is marked with a blue "+" over the Zeiss logo over "Zielvier / Nr. 26584". The scope mount is numbered to the gun. The top of the receiver ring is marked with an eagle proof mark over "ce" over "43", a faint "eagle / 280" proof is marked on the right side and the Nazi firing proof and serial number are marked on the left side. The left side receiver wall is covered by the mounting base. The top of the breech end of the barrel is marked "ce an" followed by two "eagle/37" proofs and a "*", and the left side is marked with a Nazi firing proof. All machined parts with all visible numbers matching. Hooded ramp front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Mounted with a laminated stock and matching forearm with cupped buttplate, slotted cleaning rod, brown leather sling and marked with the letter "H" on the right rear.

Condition: Near mint as professionally restored/custom made. There is some thinning on the forward portion of the barrel, floor plate and trigger guard. The barrel bands have a smooth brown patina. With the exception of a 3 1/2" minor scratch on the right rear, the stock shows a few minor dings and dents. The scope is excellent with clear optics. The sling is very good with some light scuffing. The markings, unless noted above, are clear. The action is excellent.
