J.P. Sauer Double Barrel Back Action Hammer Rifle
Nickel bead front and two leaf rear sights, with a filler block in an additional rear sight dovetail, an oval plate added near the breech, "PATENT: J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL" on each barrel and patent markings and Krupp Special Luft-Steel markings on each chamber. The underside is marked with various pre-war German proofmarks and "62/78". The barrels and break lever are blue and the remaining surfaces casehardened. Scroll engraved frame and lock plates, with "J.P. SAUER & SOHN SUHL" on each plate, geometric designs on the underside of the frame, and a pair of screw adjustable set triggers. Checkered splinter forearm and knob grip stock, with raised cheekpiece, sling swivels and a smooth flat butt.

Condition: Fine, with 90% faded original blue finish, showing some light thinning and a small area of wear and tool marks to the sides of where the rear sight was removed, mild pitting on the muzzle and scattered light handling marks. Bright, original case colors are visible in the protected areas, with a smooth silver and brown patina overall. Wood is fine with dings, chips and a few small filled repairs on the left side of the buttstock. Chambers have been altered, otherwise mechanically very good.
