J. P. Sauer  147  Code K98 Sniper Rifle with Short Side Rail Mount and SS Stamped Ajack Scope
This is an example of a early-war production K98 rifle made by J. P. Sauer and Sohns with a short rail sniper mounting system. The rifle is equipped with an unmarked Hensoldt-Wetzlar 4x scope. The only marking on the scope is 6929" on the upper left side. The base is the adjustment knob is marked with the skull and cross bones SS Death Head stamp followed by "Dienstglas" and "AJACK 39115" on the right side. The top of the receiver ring is "147 / 1940", the right side has three eagle proofs and the left side a Nazi firing proof and the serial number. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the firing proof and the serial number with three "eagle/37" proofs at the breech. All visible numbers match. All machined parts, ramp front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Mounted with a laminated stock and matching forearm with cupped buttplate, slotted cleaning rod, brown leather sling and marked with two eagle proofs in the grip area. Complete with a muzzle/front sight cover.

Condition: Fine as arsenal reworked. The rifle retains 70% faded arsenal blue finish with some wear and thinning on the front sight base, barrel bands, bolt handle and trigger guard. The stock is very good with a some overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The scope is very good with some thinning of the finish and slightly hazy optics. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
