A pair of T.Ls.S., the first 1p. 8vo., New York, Feb. 15, 1919 to Dr. Wakely, in part: "...We are sending you today...Proof #4/100 of 'The Long Long Trail'. Our effort in producing this copper etching has been to preserve the spirit of the original cartoon but to give it an artistic value which the original did not possess...Since this undertaking is one of sentiment rather than an effort to commercialize the memory of Roosevelt, I hope you will not hesitate to return the etching if it does not meet with your approval...". With a second T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Des Moines, Feb. 24, 1919, following up to the previous letter and making political commentary about the League of Nations, Woodrow Wilson and so forth.
