According to notes provided by the consignor, this rifle was the work of John Keller of Carlisle, Cumberland Country, Pennsylvania during the 1820's, later being converted from flint to percussion (consignor states that this rifle was found in a barn in the Petersburg, Illinois area). Blade front and notch rear sights, with "J. KELLER" on both the top barrel flat and on the lock beneath the nipple drum. Fitted with a brass hand rest trigger guard with double set triggers. Smooth straight wrist stock, with a brass tipped forearm and ramrod, a lightly punch-dot decorated side plate, and "I" shaped accent panel on the underside of the buttstock and a curved brass buttplate.

Good, with a mixed brown patina overall, showing a few areas of gray, scattered handling marks, and a small amount of pitting around the drum and muzzle. The lock shows a mixed gray, with a few remnants of the flash pan and frizzen assembly. Stock is also good as reoiled, with a mended chip at the toe of the buttstock and scattered dents. Mechanically very good.
