Cal. 44 RF (56-46 Spencer). NSN. Bbl. 34" octagon. Top flat is marked "J. HARDER / LOCK HAVEN PA". Rocky Mountain front sight with fixed V notch rear sight. Receiver ring is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS / PAT.D MARCH, 6, 1860." Trigger plate is fitted with set screw. 7 Round magazine inserts through steel buttplate of original walnut stock. Sporting style forearm measures 11 15/16" over pewter cap. "American Gunsmiths" by Frank Sellers has the following listing: "HARDER, JACOB, (1820-1898). Athens, Pennsylvania, 1838-1860, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, 1860-1888. Patent #319,482, June 9, 1885, breechloading firearm. Multi barrel percussion rifles and patent breechloaders. (MB 12-44)". CONDITION: metal has faded to a dark patina showing general light pitting with small dents. Barrel and receiver markings are wear. Serial number is removed from rear receiver ring. Wood has age darkened appearance with numerous scratches and dents. Forearm is missing a large chip on left side. Lever appears to be bent and not fully closing. Bore retains sound rifling.
