Nine inserted permanent photography illustrations including the frontispiece portrait, abundant engravings on wood throughout the text. <BR><BR>Publisher's green cloth covers and spine elaborately lettered and illustrated in gilt and black, back cover blind-stamped. All edges gilt. Pressed paper pasted onto original endpapers. Front cover slightly bowed, bumps and abrasions to head and foot of spine, bumped corners, slight foxing to initial pages. Overall a very good book. <BR><BR>Scottish writer John Gibson Lockhart (July 14, 1794 - November 25, 1854) is best known for the biography he wrote about his father-in-law, <I>Life of Sir Walter Scott</B></I>.
