J.G. Bolen/Allen's Patent Dragoon Pepperbox with 1837 Patent Action with Scarce Engraved German Silv

Estimate: $2000 - 3000
This example was manufactured circa 1842-1847, with the 1837 Patent action having the mainspring tension screw located on the lower front grip strap, hand engraved with a simple scroll leaf design on the sides of the frame and back grip strap, and has the nipple shield with the roll engraved scroll pattern. It has the conventional trigger and guard. The left side of the hammer is marked "J.G. BOLEN N.Y./ALLEN'S PATENT". J. G. Bolen was an agent for Allen pepperbox pistols at the time. The barrels have the flat rib, one of which is marked "CAST STEEL". The matching serial number "59" is stamped on the barrels between two of the nipples, on the inside edge of the grip frame and on the inside of each grip panel. The pistol is fitted with German silver grips with floral leaf scroll engraving.
