Fixed sights on a barrel marked "J. Fordney / LANCASTER PA". The lock plate features a light floral engraving and is marked "JAS GOLCHER". In AMERICAN GUNSMITH, firearms expert Frank Sellers records James Golcher working in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 1840 to 1870 who operated the Eagle Gun Factory and Eagle Rifle Works. Brass crescent buttplate, back action lock plate, trigger guard, ramrod pipes, patch box (engraved) and forend tip, with double set triggers and a full length stock featuring a crude carved line pattern on the wrist.

Condition: Fair. The rifle has a smooth dark brown patina with some minor pitting. The brass is fine. The refinished stock is fair with a couple large chunks of wood missing from the left side of the forearm and a large chunk of wood missing from around the lock. The stock also has some minor scratches and cracks and a few minor dings and chips. One of the three stock wedges is missing. The hammer is a replacement.
