E. Hoover,” one page, 8 x 10.5, FBI letterhead, December 20, 1946, regarding the receipt of an exam report that states he is “capable of performing strenuous physical exertion and have no physical defects that would interfere with your participation in raids or other work involving the practical use of firearms”; and a third signed “J. Edgar Hoover,” one page, 7.25 x 9.5, FBI letterhead, August 5, 1960, approving Johnson’s request to retire with the suggestion that “it will be satisfactory for you to cease active duty on August 31.” In overall fine condition.
