J. Edgar Hoover Signed Official FBI Letter with Original Envelope
Original typed letter dated January 6, 1942, on official Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice letterhead, addressed to Mr. Raphael J. Quirk of Springfield, Ohio. The letter, signed in ink by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, acknowledges Quirk's application for the position of Special Agent but notes he is beyond the maximum age limit for appointment. Hoover advises the application will be retained on file for possible future consideration. Includes the original FBI mailing envelope, stamped January 7, 1942, with official business marking. Both the letter and envelope show light creasing and toning consistent with age. A fine example of early 1940s FBI correspondence, bearing the distinctive J. Edgar Hoover signature.
