Piece measures 12" x 10" in size and is hand-signed by John Edgar Hoover (D 1972). The photo shows Hoover shaking hands with Admiral William F. Raborn and is inscribed to Admiral Raborn and dated 6-29-66.
Admiral William F. Raborn was a United States Navy officer, the leader of the project to develop the Polaris missile system, and the 7th Director of Central Intelligence as well as the 5th Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
J. Edgar Hoover was the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States. Appointed director of the Bureau of Investigation—predecessor to the FBI—in 1924, he was instrumental in founding the FBI in 1935, where he remained director until his death in 1972 at age 77. Hoover is credited with building the FBI into a larger crime-fighting agency, and with instituting a number of modernizations to police technology, such as a centralized fingerprint file andforensic laboratories.
