Ink signature, “Lt. JEB Stuart, 1st Cavalry Regt,” on an off-white 4.25 x 1.25 slip clipped from a 1857 document. Mild toning above signature which could be easily matted out, otherwise fine condition. During this time Stuart served as an officer of the newly formed 1st Cavalry stationed at Fort Leavenworth. He would be wounded in July of 1857 by the Cheyenne while fighting at Solomon River.
