J. Cooper flintlock full stocked Kentucky pistol, .54 cal., 8-1/2” octagon barrel, brown finish, wood stocks with wood ramrod. This gun is in overall good condition showing an even brown patina over metal surfaces, light engraving on lock plate with the maker name “J. Cooper”; no maker name on barrel, fair to good bore, crisp action, sharp markings, engraved brass trigger guard, one brass ferrule for the ramrod. The wood stock shows some scattered mars and scratches from carry and storage and a slight horizontal old crack of about 1-1/2” on the right front tip. Letter with this lot from respected firearms authority Mike D’Ambra dated February 5, 2001 indicates this gun was originally in the William Randolph Hearst Collection but was released when he was pulling money together to pay the “ransom” for his “kidnapped” daughter Patty. The gun reportedly was sold for Hearst by Abercrombie and Fitch and ultimately made its way to our consignor’s estate. A nice untouched piece with some interesting history. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.
