Blade front and screw adjustable notch rear sights on a heavy barrel marked "J. CLUTZ / MASSILLON, O" followed by a "BWN" cross cannon proof mark followed by "JAMES [illegible] / PITTSBURGH, PA / STANDARD / STEEL". Josiah Clutz was a Massillon, Ohio gunsmith circa 1858 to 1866 and specialized in percussion half stock rifles (see F. Seller's AMERICAN GUNSMITHS). Hammer and lock feature a light scroll engraving. Equipped with double set triggers. Half stock with brass trigger guard and buttplate and pewter forend cap.

Condition: Very good plus. The rifle has a crisp mottled gray patina with extremely sharp markings. The brass is a dark mustard yellow patina. The stock is fine with some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
