J. Baerten Double Signed and Engraved Belgian Browning Superposed Diana Grade Shotgun with Two Extra Barrels and Case

This example was manufactured in 1965. There are game scenes engraved on both sides of the receiver, on the bottom of the receiver and on the trigger guard. The game scenes are surrounded with floral scroll engraving. The left side shows five pheasants in a wooded area and is signed "JBAERTEN" below the two pheasants laying down. The right side of the receiver shows four ducks in a wooded pond and is signed "JBAERTEN" in the lower center. The underside is engraved with two quail in flight and the trigger guard is engraved with two rabbits. The 20 gauge barrel is stamped with the matching serial number, the various Belgian proofmarks, has two white bead sights, is choked skeet/skeet and has 3 inch chambers with ejectors. The 28 gauge and .410 barrels are both later additions (probably by Simmons) to the gun with the matching serial number stamped in the same area as a factory barrel, both having two white bead sights, both are choked skeet/skeet and the 28 gauge has 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors while the .410 barrels have 2 1/2 inch chambers with ejectors. All three barrel sets have Simmons vent ribs. Has a tang mounted safety/selector and mechanical triggers. Mounted on a nicely figured, multi-point checkered detachable walnut forearm and round knob pistol grip stock with a blank initial oval and a Browning recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches. With a leather covered takedown hardcase.

Very good as partially refinished (original barrels), the original barrels retain 98% of the high quality Simmons applied blue finish with some forearm wear, some scattered minor marks and the chokes have been opened up. The 28 gauge and .410 barrels retain 98% plus of the original Simmons applied blue finish with some scattered minor wear and some scattered minor freckles. Most of the French gray finish remains with some areas of oxidation at the top rear of the receiver from salt in the wood. The forearm knuckle and receiver mating surfaces are galled. The wood is very good with scattered scratches and dings along with the recoil pad added or replaced. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with scratches, indentions and scuffs.
