Interesting, possibly one of a kind. J. Bach, San Francisco, signed, heavy barrel percussion rifle converted to breech loading center fire similar to trapdoor. J. Bach was a well recognized San Francisco gun maker and gun shop with complete gun smithing services from mid 19th to early 20th century. The rifle is approximately 485 bore caliber with heavy octagon barrel, double set triggers, target sights, nicely checkered select grain wood stock. The overall condition is very good plus with much original finish remaining on the metal. The stocks show minor storage marks and natural aging. 48 1/2" overall, 1 1/2" across the barrel, weight about 16 1/2 lbs. The exact caliber is unknown but appears to be a 2 1/4" case to 2 1/2" max in order to fit into recessed area possibly European cartridge. Larry Shelton collection, author of "California Gunsmiths1846-1900". Condition is NRA Very Good***Antique Firearm***
